5 Among Friends – Questions

5amongfriends

It’s 5 among friends time!  It’s my week to pose the questions.  So, here it goes!

1.  What was your favorite book to read as a child?  Would you recommend it?  Why?

Hard one – and I asked this question myself.  My parents really didn’t read to us much.  My Dad did take us to the library every Tuesday for a while.  Then we would read out loud together.   I remember enjoying listening to my sister read Fudge by Judy Blume out loud.  Oddly enough I don’t remember any books that I picked out.

2. What sport did you play in high school?

Volleyball.  I was a setter.  I played 9th-11th grade.  I loved Volleyball and i still do.

3.  What is one prominent childhood memory

My parents playing Bid Whist with my aunt and uncle on Saturday nights.  My aunt, uncle and cousins would come over.  My dad would drink Bud Lite and my Mom Scotch on the Rocks.  I would play with my cousins.  They would listen to Larry Graham and Lou Rawls, and Lionel Ritchie on the record player.

Good times.

I will always remember it fondly.

4.  What were your dreams as a child?

To be Dorothy Hamill.  Yep, I wanted to be an ice skater with a bowl haircut.  Haha!  I thought ice skaters were like angels on ice.  My Mom and Dad would take us to all the ice shows.  We would always get front row tickets.  In the middle of the show, I always got to go out on the ice.  I dreamed that I was soaring along the ice like an angel.  Those are such great memories.  I remember the smells, the sites, everything.  I so looked forward to going to those ice shows.  Now that both of my parents are not in this mortal world, it makes me smile to remember such great memories.

5.  What did you want to be when you grew up?  Did you fulfill those aspirations?

I wanted to be a teacher.  I had my classroom set up.  I had 30 folders with all my students name on them – that I would hand out everyday.  I would do the work and then grade the papers and put grades in a grade book.

My play was very elaborate.

I thought I would be a teacher, and I guess that’s what I became.  I teach my most important students – my children.  It’s not what I envisioned, but life gives us unexpected gifts, doesn’t it?

  5. These are fun! My favorite was We like Kindergarten illustrated by Eloise Wilkins. I ran track and cross country in school. My favorite was the 400 meter. That is a fun memory of your parents entertaining. And YES you are a teacher! I wanted to be an illustrator and work for Disney : )

    • Awesome! Thanks for the book recommendation! I will get it!

Wow, you are athletic! I hated running. Only time when I would run voluntarily is when someone was chasing after me with a knife.

Fortunately, I never had the pleasure. 🙂

You should be an illustrator. That is your forte! You are brilliant. Go for it!
