5 Among Friends – Week 11 and 12

I’m a little behind on my 5 among friends, so I am going to answer 2 sets of questions in this post (sorry about that).  It’s amazing how fast time goes.

The first set of questions comes from Janine at Confessions of a Mommyholic

1.  What is my Favorite Part of the Fall Season?

For me, that’s an easy one.  A no-brainer if you will.  The stunning fall foliage.  This is one of the things I really miss not living in New England.  It’s a seasonal reminder how beautiful it is this time of year.

Just seeing the color is a daily reminder of the unending love that our Father in Heaven has for us.  It is really amazing – being that we do such terrible things.

2.  What TV Show Am I excited about Watching now that Fall is Here?

I don’t have cable, so I’m not really anticipating anything.  If I did have cable, I would imagine it would be The Big Bang Theory.  Me love the Big Bang Theory.

The US Open was a big draw – until Roger Federer lost.  Really?  He lost to Robredo?

Federer of Switzerland waves as he walks off the court after losing in three sets to Robredo of Spain at the U.S. Open tennis championships in New York

Not sure what happened here – but Roger, you gotta roll with the punches.  Hard night, but sometimes we don’t get what we want – no matter how hard we work.  I’m sure there is something you have to learn from this – that will make you a stronger person.  Tisk.  See you in Paris – I hope!

Maybe you were focusing too much on beating Nadal.  Shame.  You were ready, you would have beat him.  Ah well, I still love you!

P.S.  Robredo has no chance against Nadal.  My pick – Nadal, easy in 3.

3.  What is my Favorite Part of the Day?

3 AM.  Yeah, I see that a lot.  My blog and me are one at 3 AM.  This is when my thought process are clearest.  I like the quiet, being able to sit down and think.  Then, I go to the gym at 5.   Although today, I woke up to gagging.  Not good.  No gym for me, but at least things are quiet now.

4.  What’s the Last Book I Read?

I only read children’s books.  Last night I was reading…

Jake and the Shark Tooth Crab Claw

Excellent by Melissa Perry Moraja at Melissaproductions.com.  A great adventure about a young boy with younger siblings (twins) who goes on a beach vacation with his family.  My son loves it!  It’s a really great book.  I will be writing a review soon!

5.  What’s my Go To Recipe?

Whatever is in the house – really.  I would love to say that I have pork loin lying around that I could put in the crock pot to make pulled pork sandwiches – but i don’t.  Sometimes its hot dogs.  Sometimes it’s nachos.  Sometimes it’s chicken.  Whatever we have left over is my go-to recipe!

Not exciting is it?

Thanks for the awesome questions, Janine!

Last Weeks questions came from Kera at Nugget On a Budget

1.  If I Had a Day Off, What Would I Do?

I don’t know.  Blog.  Catch up on reading blogs.  Go to the gym.  Maybe play tennis.

It’s really hard for me to sit and do nothing.

2.  Am I a Dog or a Cat Person?  What pets do I have?

Max and Chloe

We have had them for 15 years.  Over the years, I have grown allergic to them – which is very annoying and not fun.  Is that common?   However, being that they are so old, no rescues will take them – believe me, I’ve tried.  If we take them to the humane society, they will be killed.

That, I cannot do.  The life they have here, is not good.  I can’t even touch them.  I did pet them when I took this picture.  I washed my hands, but I’m suffering even now.

But… it’s a life.

What’s better?  I have been going through all of this in my head for over a year.

I’m definitely a dog person – but dogs are too needy.  They are like kids, and I am maxed out with emotional and physical energy right now.  I can’t handle a dog.

3.  Do I collect Anything for a Hobby?

I can’t think of a single thing.  If my Mom were alive an answering these questions for me, she would say that I collect kids.  Haha!  I don’t think that’s true.  Yes, I have 3 – but I don’t think that’s a lot, or out of the realm of possibility.  Society would say that I should have one kid, a huge house, a house in the country, 4 expensive cars and a bunch of clothes.  I think exactly the opposite (seems to be the case a lot these days).  I don’t think wealth comes with things – it comes with love.  Things can be gone in an instant and can be replaced.  Love – not the case.  It’s a shame that love is the one thing that people freely squander.  It seems they would rather have their things.

4.  Cabin in the Mountains or House on the Beach.

Definitely cabin in the mountains.  No beaches for me.

5.  What is the Best Piece of Advice You can Give?

The best piece of advice that I can give – is the same as I got from my PhD advisor when I got married.  He said to me…

In marriage, someone has to give up something for the other to be happy.  Both people cannot get everything they want.  It was good advice and so true.  I would like to amend that though.  While not everybody gets what they want in marriage, it shouldn’t always be the same person making the sacrifices and the other always benefiting.  Marriage is about working together.  Both have to give some and both have to take some.

If one person is always doing the giving – the relationship is doomed.  Constant giving breeds unhappiness.  One can survive unhappy for a while, but soon enough – this type of person will seek out  happiness in others.

  1. First off love that you did two weeks in one and after last week, where I posted twice with doing my questions, too, it felt weird not posting at all this week, but I guess that is life. And love that you answered Big Bang Theory, too. And my mom is huge tennis watcher, but me not so much. But she does love Federer and sure she was upset that he lost!

    • Oh yeah, tennis. I love my tennis. I’m really sad that Roger has dropped to 7 and is having problems winning matches. But I suppose time marches on. The torch has been passed to a newer generation of tennis players. Haha!

Roger will rise again. He has a family, you know. Family is more important – really. With that said, I would like to see him whip everyone in the field (especially Nadal) and on the trophy stand again. It’s time.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Janine!

  2. I have really enjoyed reading your answers, I specially love your advice, yet I would take the word marriage off and say that every good relationship is about working together. Both have to give some and both have to take some.
Thank you for being a part of the Five Among Friends!!!

    • Thank you Jay! Yes, you are right. Relationships are about giving and taking. Any relationship – in fact. Why does it seem like it’s so obvious, yet this is a HUGE problem for many people? I just don’t get it?

Thanks so much for stopping by and for all the work you do on 5 among friend. I know it’s frustrating and confusing – or maybe that’s just me. It is certainly great fun participating.

    • Hahaha!

I am a tennis FANATIC. I watch every single tournament I can (that’s streamed on the internet). I am a BIG Federer fan. I’m still bitter that my hubby went to the USOpen and saw Federer without me.

I like Ferrer and I do enjoy watching Verdasco (although he doesn’t win much) and I am coming to like Del Po – but Nadal – I can’t stand. I am the Anti-Nadal – mainly because he has Federer’s number. Haha! I don’t like Djokovic, but against Nadal, I love him. So sad that he lost in the final – and what’s worse? Nadal is number 1.

Federer’s number 6 now. Moved up 1 place. Don’t get comfy up there, Boys – he WILL be back!

Melissa is AWESOME! I really enjoyed (notice I said “I”) Jake and the Shark Tooth Crab Claw. Thanks for reminding me that I need to email her!
