I have been working hard on improving my health and fitness.  With 130 lbs. lost, I am not about to relax just because Thanksgiving is coming.  In fact, it’s the time to become extra vigilant.  I’m committed to a no-gain holiday.  With my easy nutrition and exercise regimen, it’s easy to accomplish.

Nonetheless, I know for some or many, it’s difficult to control the sweets and portions during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It’s problematic since our society enables us to eat and eat, our bodies are meant to store fat (for times of famine), and many of us are stressed during the holidays with our obligations to spend, spend and spend more to make people happy.

It’s a vicious cycle.  More eating, more stress, less sleep = weight gain.


Tips to make it through the holidays

  • Are you attending functions at others’ houses?  Bring a healthy side that is safe for you to eat.  See some of the FREE recipes at the end of this post.
  • Use a smaller plate.  You cannot pile as much food on a smaller plate.
  • Drink a hearty protein shake before you go to the party.  It works.  1 banana, 2 tsp. peanut butter, 8 oz. Almond Milk, 1 scoop of protein isolates, 1/2 cup of ice and 2 Tbsp Flaxseed Meal will do it!  It’s low calorie and fills you up.
  • Drink more water.  The hunger and thirst symptoms are the same.  They both come from the hypothalamus.  Lots of times, your body is telling you it’s hungry when really it’s thirsty.  Don’t like plain water?  Try Perrier.  Or try a variety of flavored waters from Cascade.  You can make nice smoothies, slushies and more!  Plus, they are delish!
  • Stick to a diet that works for you.  The easier it is, the more compliant you will be.  This is why fasting works really well for me.  It’s so much easier for me to not eat than it is for me to prepare gourmet meals and eat minuscule amounts.
  • I have been reading The Mind Diet.  As most diets go, the meal plan is perfectly impractical.  But really, who can stick with a meal plan where you have to prepare food (sometimes complicated prep) 5-6 times a day? No way.  The power in this book is in its info.  It’s solid on what foods you should be eating, and depending upon your diet choice, what foods you should avoid.  Now, since I am fasting, it’s important for me to be eating an extremely high protein diet.  So I eat more protein then this diet allows, and that’s okay.  You have to use your best judgment.  It also has some great healthy recipes.  They are great!   • do 30 minutes of exercise in the morning before you eat.  High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is the best, but 30 minutes of anything is good – especially if you haven’t exercised.  For help, CONTACT ME.
