Kids Yoga Stories Review and Giveaway

Kids Yoga Stories 1

I was honored and humbled to have the opportunity to review this fantastic set of books.  I love children’s books.  However, this is just not a book – it’s an entire full-bodied adventure (literally and figuratively)!  Your children now have the opportunity to be exposed to a book that not only stimulates the intellectual centers of their minds – but also engages the creative and movement centers as well.

Title:  Sophia’s Jungle Adventure

Year Published: 2012

Review: We reviewed Sophia’s Jungle Adventure, a member of the Kids Yoga Series of Books.  These books were designed to teach young children to link interactive movements of yoga to topics of interest while promoting lively, and dynamic learning experiences (forward, Sophia’s Jungle Adventure by Giselle Shardlow).  The goal is to encourage a love for reading and increasing comprehension by actively engaging both mind and body.  These books not only introduce yoga in a fun and interactive way, but also promote the inclusion of positive physical activity in everyday life.

The benefits of yoga and storytelling are well-known.  Read about the many benefits here.

In Sophia’s Jungle Adventure,  Sophia won a national writing contest, and her prize was a trip to Costa Rica for her entire family.  With Sophia, we traveled to and across Costa Rica sharing her amazing adventures.  We met and learned about different animals and used fun, and sometimes challenging, yoga poses to represent the animals and going-ons in the story.

This is an awesome book.  It’s engaging for the kids.  In this example, we decided to use Yoga as a method for calming down before a bath and bed.

Here is a small clip of our fun!

At the end of the books, and on the interactive Kids Yoga Stories website, there are additional ideas and poses that we tried.  This will be an excellent addition to our homeschool curriculum.  Not only is yoga relaxing, but promotes strength building and flexibility.  Not only can we integrate poses and sequences found on the website as a start and ending of our school day – but also as a supplement to our physical education and reading programs.

The story is so interesting and interactive.  Because both mind and body are invoked, as a result, children understand what’s happening.  Upon hearing the story the first time, my kids could help me put the events in order.

I love how Giselle incorporates yoga into her stories making them fun, interactive and easy to follow.  Unlike any other book, these books promote physical and intellectual well-being in a way that kids can identify with and understand.  The Spanish version promotes language learning in a fun way. The illustrations are bright, engaging and fun!  In addition, because the website is amazing and offers so many more ideas to enrich your child’s experience, I give Kids Yoga Stories 5 Stars – no question!
