I received this engineering kit from Groovy Lab in a Box in exchange for an honest review and giveaway. The opinions stated herein are 100% my own.
Have you ever heard of Groovy Lab in a Box? Well, if you have not, it’s an awesome kit that comes to your house on a monthly basis. During the month your kids will be treated to an in-depth study in one of the STEM areas (science, technology, engineering or math). We have been enjoying our “launch it” kit, where we learn everything we need to know about catapults. In the end of our study, we will design our very own. But before that happens, we have lots of learning to do.
Let’s Introduce the box
These are the box of materials that we have to work with. Once we build, we can only use the materials in this box. In my opinion, the most important content is the lab notebook. This is where we record all of our findings, and is our connection to Beyond The Box.
What is Beyond The Box?
As you know, real scientists don’t go from idea to perfect design. Lots of research, learning, trial and error must happen. This is where beyond the box comes in. Beyond the box has additional learning materials available for your STEMISTS to gain further information, get further practice, and come up with more ideas. Beyond The Box contains videos, extra experiments, questions, games, or anything that will stimulate thought and interest.
Before we even got started with our box, we first went to Beyond The Box, where we learned about what scientists do, a lot about simple machines, and a bit about catapults. It was really cool.
Yesterday, we studied elastics, and how elastics store energy when you stretch them (potential energy) and release energy when they are released (kinetic energy).
I found a video that I thought would be fun for the kids to watch.
Tomorrow, we are going to build our first experiment! Don’t forget to check back with us periodically to check out our progress. At the end of the month, we are going to be hosting an awesome giveaway of a 1 year free subscription – definitely worth its weight in gold!

It is really a great product. I love how nothing is repeated, and I love that you get to learn over a period of a month. I love the detailed in-depth study.
As always, thanks for stopping by. So sorry for the VERY late reply.
