When ye are in service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God ~Mosiah 2:17
It’s monthly goals time with Mama Smiles at Joyful Parenting. I knew it was time to be accountable. I got up thinking about scripture today. I was thinking about this particular verse because I don’t do enough for others. As March is ending – and I am evaluating my goals and what I have accomplished.
My goal in March was to do an art project every week.
To be honest, I actually had a lot of fun! I guess it’s easy to accomplish goals when there is only one of them and you get to hang out and do fun stuff with your kids!
Here are our March projects…
1. Pinatas
4. TBD – Coming up on Saturday – I don’t want to ruin the surprise
Now, it’s time to move on.
It’s time to commit to goals for April.
My goals are pretty simple. I’m going to commit to be a better person, by…
- Smiling more
- Asking people (genuinely) how they are doing? And being engaged and interested in the answer
- Seeking out those who are lonely or in need – and provide the needed company, compassion, food – or whatever
The only way to teach empathy is to teach through example. In my opinion, it’s one of the greatest lessons – and one of the greatest gifts that we can give our children. If we show them what’s important – they will be more likely to want to follow us.
So my goals for April is to initiate and carry out (together as a family) my own service project. I’m not sure what that project will be. I will let the spirit guide me. When it’s done, I will definitely report with pictures!
Do you have goals for April? If you want to share, I would love to hear them.

I loved setting the monthly goals and working towards them. It seemed attainable doing them on a monthly basis! Thanks for starting this! Already thinking about may!

What a great idea! I love that these are so simple yet profound. I especially love the idea of modeling empathy. Can’t wait to hear what your family service project is! It’s hard to come up with something that works for young kids, but so worth it.
Hey Leanna,
Thanks for stopping by. Thanks for your very kind comments.
Yes, it’s going to be a bit more difficult finding something appropriate for young kids. I have some ideas in mind. It can’t be a long project. Something short and sweet! But something they can feel good about doing.
