Title:  Miss You Like Crazy

Author:  Pamela Hall

Illustrator:  Jennifer A. Bell

Publisher:  Tanglewood Publishing

Year of Publication:  2014

Miss You Like Crazy is a cozy, fuzzy tailed and cute story that comforts kids whose mother’s work outside the home.  Walnut wants to go to work with his mother.  After fantasizing about the adventures they could share while at work – such as being packed in her briefcase, or wading through the forest of pencils on her desk, or riding in her pocket – springing out and saying, BOO – his mother ensures him that he is top priority in her life.  She is always thinking about him.

This is a lighthearted story about a mom who is the breadwinner of the family, and lovely explains to her child that she must work so rent can be paid, and they have food to eat and clothes to wear.  More importantly, mom enjoys what she does, and is very good at her job.  This masterfully illustrated story  lets children know that mom carries them in their hearts everywhere.

I really love this book.  In a world that is so critical of mother’s and their choices,  It’s a much-needed story in celebration of women – and the things that they love to do.  And it’s out just in time for Take Your Child to Work Day on Thursday April 24th.

I don’t work outside the home, but I read this story to my kids and think that everybody can get something out of it.  It is a very positive, well written, well illustrated story of struggles every woman with children goes through.   Even if you don’t work outside the home – you are STILL WORKING – it’s hard, and a balance must be found.  If you have children, this is a book that should be in every single library.

Kirkus Reviews

Miss You Like Crazy fills an important niche in the life of a working mother (who pays the rent, is good at her work and values it!) and a child who misses her when she’s away. The mother assures the child he comes first in her heart. Together they devise a touching way to keep a piece of each one close during the day.” — Patricia MacLachlan, author of Sarah Plain and Tall and Snowflakes Fall
