About the Book

Josh and the Gumshoe News Crew by Melissa Perry Moraja Title: Josh and the Gumshoe News Crew: The Super Secret | Author: Melissa Perry Moraja | Publication Date: May 5, 2014 | Publisher: Melissa Productions | Pages: 154 | Recommended Ages: 6+ (read-aloud)

Summary: Up until a few days ago, nothing extraordinary had ever happened in ten-year old Josh Wunderkind’s life – except eating a whole pot of pasta by himself. But that all changed after a mammoth-sized bird hit him smack on the face with a glob of neon green bird poop, triggering his superhuman Wunderkind ability and leaving him with the responsibility of caring for a baby bird he named Max. Now Josh was just like his older brother and twin sister Madison-super extraordinary! But what Josh didn’t realize was that being superhuman wasn’t all fun and games.

And things only got more complex in Josh’s life when his two siblings and a couple neighborhood friends persuade him to lead a super crime-solving, neighborhood news team—the Gumshoe News Crew. But not before they agree on the Super Secret and complete Gumshoe Boot Camp.

Find out what the Super Secret is. Will the Gumshoe News Crew complete boot camp? Or will Josh let his team down?

Hey they are again – Jake, Josh, and Madison Wunderkind – up to their old kid tricks.  I love this series of books, because there are three kids of olde – doing what kids do best, imagining!  Your child will never read about Jake, Josh and Madison playing wii games all day, or playing the Nintendo DS, or playing computer games – they are outside doing what kids (pre-1994) would do best.

It’s refreshing.

Josh is the star of this book.  Josh feels that he flies under the radar.  He’s not super smart like his older brother Jake, and he doesn’t have a guardian angel like his twin sister Madison.  He’s just ordinary, and is still looking for his superpower – the thing that makes him special.  When a neon green splat of bird poop falls in his face, his mouth, and his ear – something extraordinary happens.

In this well written Wunderkind Family Book, you read all about Josh’s new-found superpower, the super secret, and all the kids of the Gumshoe News crew.

Fun and inviting, this book will keep your new chapter reader engaged and begging for more books in the series.  The story comes together beautifully.  If you are having problems finding books that you child will enjoy, check out the Wunderkind Family Series of books.

  1. Thank you so much for your ‘wonderful’ review! Melissa

  2. Heh Lisa, you raise a good point about the portrayal of the kids as being outside, playing together, interacting, and having adventures; whereas it seems we now have a generation of kids who think playdates should be about playing WII together or even playing on the Nintendo DS side-by-side. The kids in this book series really are doing it right and hopefully children reading the books will learn that it’s much more fun to use your imagination in creating your own games. Thanks so much for taking part in the Josh and the Gumshoe News Crew.

    • Yes, you are right. I think about the boys that come over to play with my son. It’s like pulling teeth to get them outside. It’s actually exhausting – the constant – turn it off and go outside. I have had to resort to putting up the laptops, hiding the wii remotes, and banning the mobile game devices.

Thanks so much for allowing me to participate in this book blast!
